International Students

Many international students opt to participate in a one-year Optional Practical Training (OPT) experience before, during or after graduation. This is a great opportunity for international students to apply what they learned in class in an American workplace. For more detailed information about OPT, international students are strongly encouraged to speak to their Designated School Official (DSO). Once the student receives permission from the Department of Homeland Security to work in an OPT position, the Career Services department will assist the student in obtaining an OPT position.

If an international student is not legally eligible, at the time of graduation, to work in a full-time, permanent position within the United States, then they are not eligible for full career assistance. However, general services will be provided for 60 days after graduation. General services include individual advising, the alumni handbook and résumé critiquing. If the graduate becomes in-status and /or authorized to work permanently in the U.S., full career services will resume. The burden of changing status or obtaining work authorization will remain with the student. It is up to the student/graduate and the potential employer to discuss the details of their employment eligibility, potential change in their Visa status and/or opportunities for company sponsorship
